Russian agribusiness has purchased 2.65 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (by nutrient content) since the beginning of the year, including accumulated stocks, Russian Agriculture Ministry data shows. Thus, as of mid-April, Russian mineral fertilizer producers have already covered half of the projected demand for the entire year.
The President of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association, Andrey Guryev, said: “Our estimates show that agricultural producers have been fully supplied with mineral fertilizers for spring sowing. All requests from farmers are getting processed by manufacturers promptly and in full. A large portion of the requested volumes has either already been used as top-dressing nitrogen or will be applied in the near future. The prompt delivery of fertilizers to consumers, including by rail, depends to a great extent on the operation of transport infrastructure.
It should be noted that the timing of mineral fertilizer application is one of the main factors of efficiency, and purchasing fertilizers in advance helps with accurate timing. If we start this work today, we will be able to avoid a surge in demand in the summer months and an unnecessary strain on transport networks.”
